UoM Erasmus Plus Residence and Visa Information for Incoming Students

Visit Admissions for Universities and Colleges in Malta for Details on Admissions to all institutions

Following arrival and registration at the University, ALL international students who stay for more than 3 months (ie: 90days) should apply for an e-Residence document. This document will also be used as an ID card and will allow you to travel within the Schengen Area, together with a valid passport.

The below information applies to current and prospective University of Malta students.

Original documents and copies are to be provided by the applicant. Only applications with complete documentation will be accepted.

Information for EU/EEA students:-

Applications for the e-Residence document must be submitted prior to the expiry of the 90 days from entering the Schengen Zone.

Below is the list of required documents:-

• Application Form for Residence Documentation
• Form ID 1A -  Electronic Identity Registration Form (Non-Maltese Nationals)
• Original and copy of passport or Foreign ID card (Bio data page only).
• Proof of sufficient financial means of subsistence:- A bank statement or money transfer receipts of the previous three months showing the equivalent of a minimum of 750 Euro for each month of stay in Malta. Foreign and original bank statements must be signed, stamped and dated by the bank manager. However ,when foreign bank statements are presented, the applicant must provide at least a withdrawal chit to show that the bank account is actually accessible. A copy of the credit/debit card showing the corresponding bank account on the bank statement, is also required. In the case of local bank statements only original copies are accepted. Bank statements are accepted in Euro. If the bank account is held in another currency, the applicant must show the equivalent amount in Euro. (An Internet currency conversion in English will do).
• Original and copy of the rental agreement, showing the name of the applicant, date of expiry and a copy of the Rental Declaration Form completed by the applicant and the owner of the property.
• Original and copy of comprehensive health insurance (the policy should cover in-patient and day care hospital expenses, and also medical evacuation and repatriation) showing name and surname of policy holder and coverage period.
• Letter from the educational establishment (ie the Endorsement letter – this will be issued from the International & EU Office, please see link below)

All documentation must be presented or translated into English.

Information for Non-EU/EEA students:-

Applications for the e-Residence document must be submitted prior to the expiry of the visa and within the first month of entering Malta.  The e-Residence Document will NOT be issued unless the required medical test is carried out. For further information about the Chest X Ray please refer to the Health Care page.

• A copy of your current Maltese residence permit (applicable only for returning students).
