Studying Health Science

With the increasing number of people who are becoming more conscious of their health and considering the global concern about new illnesses and an aging population, studying health science has become a popular option for many students. The health sciences collectively comprise a broad field of study that covers a large number of courses. Some of these courses are nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, and nutrition. Despite their differences, these courses are all focused on the two key aspects of enhancing human health and increasing healthcare efficiency.

Health Science Courses in Australia

Depending on their specific area of interest, students can choose from a long list of the health science programs in Australia. When considering the total number of students enrolled in health science courses, the list of top ranking universities is headed by the University of Sydney, the University of Queensland, and Monash University. Taking a look at the percentage of students enrolled in these courses gives a different picture, with the top-rated universities being the Australian Catholic University, Flinders University, and Notre Dame University.

At the undergraduate level, Sydney University offers a comprehensive list of courses that would fit into any student’s career path in the health sciences. The courses offered place great importance on fieldwork and immersion, as well as on guided learning experiences. To encourage enrolment, the university even offers scholarships for qualified undergraduate students. In the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Occupational Therapy, students are able to work with actual clients who are confronted with challenges in their daily life. This experience shows students that their work has a direct impact on clients’ quality of life.

In terms of pursuing further studies, students have a number of different options. One option that is offered by the University of Queensland is the Master in e-Healthcare degree. This program closely combines the optimized use of information and communications technology with the enhanced efficiency of healthcare provision to deliver the best possible care. Another related option on offer is the Master in International Public Health degree which positions graduates to contribute to the resolution of public health issues on a global scale.
