Course DescriptionComputers and embedded systems now form an integral part of most real-time control, signal processing and industrial automation applications. The use of microprocessor, microcontroller and FPGA-based devices in embedded system design has been ever-growing in the last few decades. These devices are low-cost, single-chip and flexible to programme.

The course gives students hands-on experience and opportunities for experimentation in this exciting field. A previous knowledge of embedded system hardware or software is not required.  Candidates will be given an opportunity to experience embedded system design in a manner similar to that practised in industry, and will gain knowledge beneficial for obtaining a job in this field both locally and abroad.

Study/Course DeliveryThis programme of study addresses the competences required for technical level to the Electrical Engineering in particular Embedded Systems Technology.  The achievement of the required underpinning knowledge and key skills will be accomplished through contextualising key skills and adopting a highly practical approach.
AssessmentAssessment of the programme is an integral part of the learning process. Students will be assessed by a mixture of home based and time constrained assignments, practicals and projects. The learning process is completed by providing learners with feedback that is both formative and summative in nature.

2. Apply the fundamentals of embedded system hardware and software design using microprocessors, microcontrollers and FPGAs

3. Use development tools for firmware architecture, design and debugging

4. Produce embedded hardware and software, glue logic, circuit design, circuit layout and circuit debugging.
