Course Description The MCAST Diploma in Electronics (Power Electronics) is intended for candidates who wish to embark on a career in electrical and electronic engineering with a particular focus on power electronics. The use of power electronics is becoming more popular with advancements in technologies especially in the use of renewable energy technologies.

Students are introduced to the different types of power electronic devices that form the building blocks of power electronic circuits. Modules cover a broad understanding of DC motors, transformers, single and three phase induction motors and the role of magnetism in all of these. Besides power electronics, students are also exposed to programming techniques and microcontrollers, giving them sufficient knowledge and skills required by the manufacturing and services industry.

Study/Course Delivery This programme of study addresses the competences required for technical level to the Electrical Engineering in particular Power Electronics. The achievement of the required underpinning knowledge and key skills will be accomplished through contextualising key skills and adopting a highly practical approach.
Assessment Assessment of the programme is an integral part of the learning process. Students will be assessed by a mixture of home based and time constrained assignments, practicals and projects. The learning process is completed by providing learners with feedback that is both formative and summative in nature.

3. Explain the configuration, operation and application of power electronic circuits
