The University of Malta is a participating institution in the eduroam Wi-Fi service. eduroam (education roaming) is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.
staff and students to use their UoM IT Account to access the Internet from their laptop or mobile device (smartphone, tablet etc.) when visiting other eduroam participating institutions. This is particularly useful when staff and students attend events or participate in exchange programmes (e.g. Erasmus) at these institutions.
visitors from eduroam participating institutions to connect to the UoM wireless network using the IT account of their home institution. Visitors do not need to be provided with IT guest accounts to be able to connect to the wireless network.
eduroam is also convenient for UoM staff and students to access the UoM wireless network. This is because once the laptop or mobile device is configured for eduroam access, there will be no need to type the username and password each time you need to connect to the University wireless network.
Other visitors with a guest UoM IT Account can connect to the University wireless network through the browser-based Wi-Fi services. Once connected to the wireless access point, visitors can start using the service by first launching a web browser, choosing the visitor option, and authenticating using the provided username and password.
There are no charges associated with the use of eduroam.
